Beautiful Denmark – The Incas Have Come… high density version
In dear memory of Dalara Darabi, execured by Iran’s religion for protecting what she loved. Filmed in Denmark on May 1, 2009, by Bent Lorentzen The opening montage images, in beat with the Inca music of Sol & Luna, works for many people but not all. They fleetingly represent the good and bad sides of Denmark. Pay particular attention throughout the video to how various “denaturing” symbols of the city are perhaps disempowered by what occurs through the ancient music and Inca dancers. The final montage image, of an under construction Copenhagen sunset, foreshadows the final, coming home sequence of my film. You will also see an image from 16th century Denmark, of King Christian IV burning Danish midwives for their heretical natural wisdom. The purple heron, which summers in Denmark, was the basis for the Greek and Egyptian Phoenix bird myth, also later a Christian symbol of resurrection. The bird’s stark coloration, as well as its strong immune system – often surviving crocodile attacks on the Nile in ways that defy many assumptions – helped create the myth of a bird that burned itself on a magical tree, and from the ashes, reinvent itself gloriously. Images from Iraq and such are self-explanatory. My grandmother told me that the two vikings on the pillar by Copenhagen City Hall only blow the lure-horns when a virgin maiden passes beneath. Of course, it is the evocative and interpretive Inca-latin music which truly bridges this video to wherever you wish it to go. Sol & Luna gave me permission to use their music for this.
